SOUTH LONDON SOMALI MEN'S LOCAL GROUP

SOUTH LONDON SOMALI MEN'S LIVING STREETS GROUP FORMED IN 2024.

We are a Living Streets group as well as being a part of Uffo Athletic Health. Our Wellbeing Walks are led by trained local people and are predominantly aimed at Somali and Muslim communities, though not exclusively.

We currently run walks in Burgess Park, Southwark. The project is funded through Climate Health and Community Fund by Impact on Urban Health in partnership with Do It Now. The group meets twice for evening walks with few planned workshops to address health inequalities, climate crisis impact on racialized communities and for safer and healthy streets.

What we do:

  • Support Black, Asian and minority ethnic communities.
  • Help local residents walk more for health, leisure and to reduce carbon footprint.
  • Promote active travel and collaborate with local authorities and other stakeholders.
  • Engage with local people to access green spaces and parks for better wellbeing.
  • Reach more people to improve their physical health and mental wellbeing through greener transport modes such as walking, wheeling, and cycling.
  • Support underrepresented communities to have their say and feel included in local consultations.
  • Help London residents connect through an Inter-borough Annual Walking Challenge (Uffo Athletic Walking Challenge 30km).
